The review article «Premalignant lesions of the oral cavity: a narrative review of factors and mechanisms of transformation into cancer» prepared by EPOY has been recently published in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Oral potentially malignant disorders have a high risk of transforming into oral cancer, but the lack of a unified treatment standard complicates management. Early detection and treatment of these disorders are vital to prevent oral cancer progression. This review describes environmental, immune, microbiome, and molecular factors governing the transformation of oral potentially malignant disorders into oral cancer.
