A recent meta-analysis of 35,733 female and 57,821 male tongue cancer patients revealed that while women have lower overall incidence of oral tongue cancer, they show a significantly higher annual percent change in incidence compared to men, despite much lower rates of smoking and alcohol use. This alarming trend is especially pronounced in developed countries (USA, France, Australia, Netherland and South Korea) compared to developing countries (Serbia, Thailand).
