Genetic risk factors for early-onset oral cancer progression

EPOY published the article «Genetic alterations of oral cancer associated with progression in young adults» in the Russian Journal of Genetics. In this study, we identified a link between somatic mutations and patient survival. Mutations in TAF1L, CUL7, PRPS1L1, and CDKN2A are associated with relapse-free survival, while mutations in PLEC and TEP1 are linked to metastasis-free survival. Mutations in ADGRL3, PREX1, and CDKN2A affect overall survival. In addition, the pathogenic variant rs121913387 in CDKN2A was discovered. Validation in an independent TCGA cohort confirmed an association of CDKN2A mutations with OSCC progression at the age of 45 years, but not in older patients.
