The review article «Early-onset oral cancer as a clinical entity: aetiology and pathogenesis» prepared by EPOY has been recently published in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most important medical and socio-economic problems in many developed countries of the world, due to the high mortality. It is known that the incidence of OSCC among persons under 45 years of age is growing every year. However, aetiological factors and pathogenetic mechanisms are currently insufficiently understood. This review summarizes the available information regarding clinicopathological features, extrinsic and intrinsic aetiological factors, and the molecular and immune landscape of early-onset OSCC.
